Today, we transformed our classroom into a campground adventure! 🏕️

In our ULS unit ‘Finding Our Way,’ we’re exploring new places and focusing on the core word ‘GO’ this month.

Here’s how we brought the lesson to life:

➡️ We built a cozy tent with classroom dividers and had students GO inside.

🎣 We set up a ‘pond’ for a fun round of ‘GO Fish.’

🔥 We gathered around a pretend campfire, using a switch to make the fan ‘GO’ and blow the flames!

🍫 And, of course, we couldn’t skip the s’mores!

Hands-on learning like this makes every day an adventure! How do you bring excitement to your lessons? 👇🏽

Welcome to Part 2 of our Classroom Tour Series! 🌟

Today, I’m sharing our centers! It’s on the longer side so I sped it up a little! 😅

Each center is 15 minutes, a total of 2 centers each day Tuesday- Thursday. (On Mondays we go to Music with our Gen Ed Peers, and on Friday we have Friday Fun day!)

🧮 Our Math Center features various manipulatives, math picture supports, and ULS math and journal folders.

📖 ELA Center: A cozy space with adapted books,  ELA picture supports, and ULS ELA and journal folders

🗣️ Core Word Center: A dedicated time to practice core vocabulary with visual supports, and AAC devices using sensory activities, and cause and effect toys.

@n2yllc is a big part of our centers! It’s an easy curriculum to print, prep and go!

Don’t miss Part 3, where we’ll look at our AAC devices and how they support communication

Ending October with two of our favorite things: pumpkins and science! 🎃 🧪

Our students had a blast carving pumpkins, mixing ingredients, and creating an explosive pumpkin reaction!

We focused on our core word, “see,” while engaging all 5 senses in this hands-on activity.

This pumpkin experiment is always a hit in our classroom! What fun pumpkin activities did you try in your classroom this year? 👇🏽

Welcome to Part 1 of our Classroom Tour Series! ✨

Today, I'm sharing our sensory corner! Our sensory corner is the perfect place for students to self regulate, reduce anxiety and stress, and helps promote independence and choice making.

It’s an essential space in our classroom for building a supportive, calming, and inclusive environment.

The Stepping Stones were gifted to our classroom from @outree. If you use code THEADAPTEDCLASSROOM at checkout you can receive 24% off your purchase which is pretty awesome 😊

Stay tuned for Part 2 as we explore our Centers!

Nothing says October like pumpkin spice pancakes! 🎃🥞

Cooking in our classroom is always a hit! It’s not just tasty but also a perfect opportunity to model core words, use AAC, follow directions, and get hands-on.

The best part? Every student had a blast while practicing real-life skills. 🍁✨

Special shout out to my teacher bestie @michelleposton76 🫶🏽 TLDR; She’s amazing and I love her!

Many of you ask me how I do all the things, and the truth is behind every good teacher is a teacher bestie supporting her and collaborating with her along the way! We teach the same class but different grade levels (all of my students move up to her class!) So we love to collaborate on a lot of classroom activities. She came up with the pumpkin pancakes idea, found a recipe on @allrecipes, prepped all the visuals, and lead the activity so I could film content for you guys! Believe it or not setting up a tripod to get different angles while I teach is pretty difficult when I’m also trying to to show how our students engage 😅 Without her, I wouldn’t get half the stuff I post on here because she’s always encouraging me to turn on my camera and share with you all. We’re both so passionate about making sure kids like ours are included in the curriculum, actively participating, and showing that they CAN do all the things given the proper supports and guidance. And the best way for us to do that is to show you. So thank you Michelle for helping me show the world that our kids CAN, and thank you teachers for believing your kids can too.💙

One of our favorite October activties is exploring a pumpkin!

Students were able experience the pumpkin through sight, touch, taste, smell, and sound.

We used AAC devices to label different sensory experiences “soft,” “smooth,” “orange,” “sticky,” “slimy”

It was the perfect activity for students to participate and engage in! 🎃

What are some of your favorite pumpkin activities? 👇🏽

“There was an Old Lady Who Wasnt Afraid of Anything” 😱 is one of our favorite read alouds!

It was a great opportunity to go over our core word of the month, “see”!

The story has repetitive phrases like, “the shoes went clomp clomp!” that were perfect to record onto AAC devices for student participation.

I brought in props from home (thank you husband!) to act out the sounds and movements from the story, making it more engaging and interactive for the students.

What are your favorite read alouds in your classroom? 👇🏽

This is part 3 of a 3 part “circle time” series 🎉

In part 1 & 2 I showed how I prep AAC devices to use during circle time & how students use AAC devices to participate!

Along with our AAC devices, we dance along to some fun songs as students participate using their circle time folders!

After our circle time songs are done we go over our calendar routine. Lastly, we sing for students who are present that day.

As you can tell we love @gregandsteve songs! What are some of your favorite circle time songs?👇🏽
