Hey there, Teacher Friends! I’m Rhose, I am a self-contained elementary special education teacher for students with significant disabilities. I am passionate about adapting lessons to meet each student’s specific needs. I am also a wife, and mama of three little ones under the age of five.

Out A.P.E teacher surprised us with a visit so we decided on a game of baseball before heading home for the day!
The best part was that our Gen Ed peers joined in on the fun!

We kickstarted our math lesson with a catchy number song from our favorite, @jackhartmannkmc!
Students chose the color of the bears they wanted to work with using voice output buttons.
We used our handy dandy Zingo! Zinger to choose a number to build.
Students counted their bears using AAC devices and support as needed!

Celebrating Earth Day with hands-on learning! Our SLPA led an engaging recycling activity, empowering students to make a difference by sorting materials into aluminum, paper, and plastic bins.
It was also the perfect opportunity to use our core words of the month, ‘where’ and ‘here’! As we presented each item, students asked “where do I put it?” once we sorted the item students used the AAC device to day, “I put it here!”

Turning downtime into SEL opportunities ✨
There are times in our classroom where downtime is unavoidable. Downtime can lead to challenging behaviors, but we`ve found a way to turn unstructured parts of our day into meaningful learning opportunities.
I call our downtime “harmony time” and our “harmony helper” chooses a fun downtime activity for the class using a spinner from @see_me_thrive_adapted_toys.
The downtime activities give students time to transition and engage in meaningful activities with their classmates before the next structured activity in the day.
